Divide It Up With Your Roommates

You all are probably very excited to meet your new roommates. However, you or your roommates cannot buy everything in the dorm by himself/herself. Here is a list of things you should divide it up with your roommates.

Divide It Up:
- TV
- Fridge
- Microwave
- Lights
- Small Table
- Rug
- Kitchen Rack (keeps all your kitchen belongings in one place)

The things listed above are mostly what you AND your roommates need. You don't need three microwave or TV in one dorm. So before you attend college, check and discuss with your roommates about the things listed above. But above all, you have to check the size of the dorm before buying everything. Most dorm size is listed on the school website.

Get It Yourself:
- Decorations
- Eating Utensils
- Towels
- Bathroom Items
- Bed Sheet

Free Software For Every College Student

Microsoft Office Mac Home and Student 2011 GZA-
Microsoft Office 2010 PC Home And Student Edition - MSCD04771WI
Microsoft Office Home & Business 2010 Product Key Card - Business &
Microsoft Office Home & Student 2010 Traditional Disc 79G-02144

College students should be saving here and there in order to pay for college. If it's not for your own benefit, it is for your parent's. So take a look at the list below! The links to each program is located on the right side of the title below.

Gimp is probably the best free program out there that can compete (sort of) with Adobe Premiere & Photoshop Elements. Save your $300+ and use this instead of buying photoshop!

You may already know about this one. It’s essentially a free alternative to Microsft Office. If you’ve been used to Microsoft, this will take some getting used to, but not spending $150 is worth that!

3) VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)
This program will play nearly any kind of video file you throw at it. If you’re like me, you probably aren’t a huge fan of Quicktime or Real Player. This easily takes the place of them!

4) Free Mind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Download)
This program allows you to do what is called “mind-mapping” – which basically means brainstorming. It allows you to take ideas in your head and put them down on paper in a natural, readable layout. I used this a lot when preparing to write papers or when starting projects. You’ll be amazed at how much it helps your thoughts stay organized!

This is by far, the most convenient online storage. You don't have to buy USB or external hard-drive anymore. This saved me once when my computer crashed.

Preparation for Freshman Year

Now that you have finished high school, it's time to move onto your first year of college. But first, there are some preparations and tips you need to know before you step into the realm of Freshman year.

1) Choose Your First Semester Courses

I know it may sound easy for you but it's, in fact, not so easy. You have to choose your first semester courses wisely. Other than choosing the fundamental courses required by your college, you have to choose the elective. Now is the tricky part. If you are decided on your major, then choose the elective that interests you. It does not have to be related to your major. But if you are undecided, which I believe most of you guys are, you should choose the electives that gears towards your "intended" major.

2) Change Your Old Habits

Allow time to change your old, bad habits you had over the course of your high school career. Although it will be challenging for you to change but you have to force yourself to do it because it will be better for you in the near future. You should also learn how to manage your time wisely.

3) Gaining Your Parents' Trust
I know this is probably one of the preparations you hate to do but you have to do it. You parents will most likely help you get through college so gaining your parent's trust over the summer can save you in the future. For example, if you prove to your parents you can handle and manage the money wisely, they will likely provide you with reasonable money in the future if you need it.

4) Improve Your Study Habits
I know this is probably one of the hardest tasks out there for soon-to-be freshman to do but you got to learn to do it. Most of you guys will probably have a relaxing summer (the last summer before "the real world") so you won't even think of studying. However, I advise you to improve your study habits by reading newspapers, magazines, or books. It will be easier for you to connect learning experience from high school to college level.

5) Plan Your Budget
While you guys experience freedom in college, you will also be face with the challenge of planning your budget. In high school, most of you guys are be extremely dependent on your parents so budgeting on every purchase isn't necessary. However, in college, every penny you save for this purchase can buy you other things you value more such as partying (not applicable to everyone). So plan your budget ahead. You should include phone bills, partying expenses (this can be expensive if you don't control yourself) , money for what-ever-you-like, and most importantly, emergency fund.

Food on A Dime

We all like to eat something good but sometimes, it is just not possible with the budget of college students. Below is a list of three cheap but good food for college students:

1) Grilled Cheese
Grilled Cheese is simple to make and is also tasty. It provides the necessary nutrition for many college students. Grilled cheese is basically melted cheese in toasts. Moreover, pair this with a cup of milk and you are ready to go for the whole school day.

2) Quesadillas
Quesadillas are just like grilled cheese except you put chicken or beef in between. Quesadillas are good for lunch and maybe dinner. I like to make myself some Quesadillas for lunch.

3) Soup
Soup isn't all that hard to make than you think it is. You can even buy a few cans of Campell's and mix it with fresh veggies. Most Campell's cans are amazingly tasty. I like their cream mushroom.

Above are just some of the recent food that I ate for my meals. There is more food coming soon. If you have ideas, please comment below.

Help with Packing for College

Here are a few tips to eliminate some expenses when moving to school. Not all of these may work for you (and you’ve probably thought of a few others!), but hopefully they will help you out a little bit during this crazy move-in time!
  • Boxes: Ask for boxes from your local grocery store. I say grocery store because they receive so much produce that arrives in boxes. Many places will either just throw these boxes out or recycle them, so before you buy boxes ask around to see if you can’t get some for free.
  • Only take what you need: Trust me on this one – you really don’t need that much stuff at college, especially if you’re living in the dorms. Girls, you don’t need 15 pairs of shoes. Guys, you don’t need your entire vintage record collection. Think about what you use on a daily basis, plus those few other things you’ll need for special occasions. You will undoubtedly return home with far more than you brought to school anyway, so try not to bring too much to start off with.
  • Be organized: Make sure you know exactly what you’re taking and where it is. This makes sure you don’t need to run to the store once you get to school because you forgot your tape or hangers or whatnot. A lot of people waste money on things they already have but simply cannot find.
  • Decorate with free or cheap stuff: You don’t have to buy posters. Decorate with pictures of your friends, artwork you’ve made, and free posters that get handed out around campus or at concerts you’ve been to, that sort of thing. Bring some of your decorations from home so you don’t have to buy all-new stuff when you get to school. Also, thrift stores are a great place to find some really neat decorations.
  • You probably don’t need to rent a Uhaul: If you’re bringing a Uhaul, you probably didn’t listen to the “only bring what you really need” advice. (This doesn’t apply if you had to rent a Uhaul to bring up a bike or futon because your family’s car isn’t big enough to carry one up.) You should be able to fit most or all your stuff in your or your parents’ car. If you can’t, you’re bringing way too much stuff. Bringing that much will just be a hassle, plus you’ve used up money on renting the Uhaul. You’ll also have to rent a Uhaul to get all that stuff back home, so that cost is really hitting you twice.

Song of the Day

Graduation is happening everyday, everywhere. When is your graduation? I have walk through this process already but I wish you all the best of graduation

Three Ways to Avoid Freshman 15

Most of you guys probably know what "Freshman 15" is but some don't so I'll explain it here. So Freshman 15 is the extra 15 pounds you will gain after you finish your first year of college. Below is a list of ways to avoid the Freshman 15:

1) Know Your Eating Habits
I know food is addicting but you have to control your eating habits. You go out to eat everyday with your friends is a popular scene for freshmen. Even though mingling is the ultimate way to make friends, its the worst road to the Freshman 15. You can eat whatever you want at whenever you want. That is college. But above all, just try to control your eating at night.

2) Drinking
Drinking defines the real college life but when you do it too often, you cannot escape the judgment of the Freshman 15. Drinking once-twice a week is alright but over that will add on to your weights. Alcohol are addicting and so is partying so be ready to control yourself and your weight.

3) Meal Plans
The transition from healthier, home cooked meals to processed food from the dining hall can take a toll on your flat tummy. All meal plans differ from campus to campus, but they are probably generally pretty similar. The dining hall offers buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unless you are a bottomless pit with a speedy metabolism, you probably don’t need to stuff your face for 3 meals a day. Try only filling one plate with a good variety of food groups, and then get more if you really still feel hungry.

No one can help you prevent the Freshman 15, ONLY you can! G'luck guys!

How to Make Fake ID

I do not encourage making fake ID. This is only for academic purposes.

Bringing a Girl To Your Place

If you have the guts to do it, the girls might go to your place after the party.

1) Treat her respectfully and make her feel comfortable around you. Dance with her and don’t try to keep kissing her until she wants you to dude! Don’t over do it.

2) Don’t try to take her home unless she gives you that signal bro. If she has been making out with you all night then yeah, try. If she has been denying your kisses, just take her number down and hit her up later.

3) Offer to walk her home. If she has been making out with you and staying with you that whole night chances are she will be down for you to walk her home. She might let you in.

4) If she has friends, invite her AND her friends over for some drinks. Invite some of your friends also to keep these girls some company. This gives the girl an incentive to come over. Besides, she will feel much safer and more inclined to come over if her friends are coming also. Work on your own turf , it will be much easier for you to work your magic.

5) Girls like guys that know how to have fun and that are having fun. Don’t be the guy in the corner just scanning the party and being a stalker. Have fun, mix in and then attack the prey .

This whole process is never easy and isn't suppose to be easy. Having the confidence is one thing. You got to have common sense when conducting every action.

Top Five College Party Drinks

Below is a list of top five classic college party drinks:

1) Screwdriver - probably the most classic and famous one out there.

2) Long Island Ice Tea – with vodka, tequila, rum, gin, triple sec, sweet and sour mix and Coke, its a Guaranteed hangover the next day.

3) Boilermaker – a shot of whisky dropped in beer.

4) Buttery Nipple In a shot glass mix Butterscotch Schnapps and Irish Cream. The drink, as the name implies, will make you naked within seconds.

5  Rum & Coke – This is, perhaps, one of the easiest to make and tastiest drink out there. Check this out.

Six Types of Guys

I had posted the Six Types of Girls yesterday so feel free to check it out. Now I am going to write about the six types of guys you'll meet in college.

1) Sweet Guys
The sweet guy will come to class to pick up his girl. He will dash to your classroom right after the class is dismiss. This can be both a pro and a con. The pro is that he is very sweet, passionate, and caring about the relationship you guys just established. The con is that it might get annoying very quickly. It seems like there are no surprises in the first stage of the relationship.

2) Frat Guys
Frat guys represent all the negative stereotypes.   He is the huge drinker that constantly keeps hitting on girls. The pro of this kind of guy is that he is fun and parties a lot. The con is that he usually isn't too smart and switches girls everyday.
3) Geek Guys
The Greek guys are the nerdy guys. You guys should know some nerdy guys at school because they are going to Harvard or Stanford. They are very smart but they play games all day long. The pro is that he is smart but the con is that he is hard to talk to (too focus on games and homework).
4) Social Outcasts
He is the loner. He sits alone during parties. However, you shouldn't automatically assume that he is an unfriendly person just because he is alone. Don't judge by first appearances. This party group might not be his group so that's why he is alone. But other party group might be his. The pro of this kind of guys is that he is easy to talk to (since he is alone) and the con is that you might be treated as a loner because you are with him.
5) Douche Guys
Drunk and disorderly, the Douche is usually spotted with his hand on some girl’s ass, brawling in the street, shouting obscenities at everyone who walks in, or simply breaking everything in sight. Usually not the best person to send a Facebook invite when you are hosting an event. The pro of this kind of guy is that he is party beast but the con is all you can think of.
6) "Friend-Zone" Guys
These are the guys the girls love to hang around but only seen them as strictly “friends”.  Why are these guys always in the friend zone, well that depends on the girl they are dealing with, she might not see him as anything she could be physically attracted to, but loves his personality and company. The pro of this kind of guys is that he can be there when you need him but the con is that he is struck in the middle of regular friend and boyfriend.

Hooking Up

Going to college is one thing but hooking up with "friends" is another.

1) Live in Dorms or Greek Houses
In the first year, you probably won't party as much as any of the next three year. Instead, you are trying to find time to know your friends. You can attend some the get-togethers in the dorms with fun themes. You will be surprise how much guys are into this kind of style.

2) Go to the Parties
Parties are the best places to meet people. It is better to go to parties within the school rather than outside. You never want to meet the police with the fake ID on your hand, so beware.

3) Get to Know the Guys/Girls
I cannot stress the importance of this. Just get to know the guys or the girls or both. You can go out to eat lunches or breakfasts together. Just for fun. However, you should make the your line clear. You are friends with them, not boyfriend or girlfriend. Some people have a hard time drawing the line.

4) Get it Done with Food
I have tried this before. Cooking is the way to his or her heart. She/he will love the food you cook no matter how bad it is (well, not TOO bad. At least edible). If you cannot cook, you can buy a bunch of dishes and present it to him/her. What I mean is like buy a bowl of pasta, a cup of corn soup, and a tasty wine. You should try to buy these in different stores because buying in one store is the same as buying it at McDonald's.

Freshman "Dont's"

Freshman are new to college. You don't know your way around on the first day of school. You don't know where the school public bus is heading to. You get lost after class. These are just some common sights on the first few days of college. Below is a list of "don'ts" for college freshman.

1) Don't take anymore than 18 credits of Class
Taking more credits does not prove that you are smarter. It proves that you are a nerd or that you will be nerd-ing your way through college life. College isn't all about studying in class but it is very important though. You need to get involved in clubs and organizations that might, perhaps, help you in your near future.

2) Don't Break the Washing Machine
I know this sounds a bit too extreme but it's true in a metaphorical sense. Most of us don't wash our own clothes in high school so we will be fairly about the whole process in college. Ask you mom to teach you how to properly wash clothes before you leave for college.

3) Don't Forget to Use Time Wisely
While college is full of fun, it is also important that we remember to use our time wisely. There are lots of things that will distract us such as clubbing or partying. You need to learn to say no to some offers to parties. Not using your time wisely will show on your first semester grade so don't say I didn't warn you about it.

4) Don't Ever Judge Others Immediately
Your friends might tell you one thing about this guy but in reality, the guy is totally different. You need to find a balance between what your friends and peers tell you and what you see and know yourself. Don't judge a guy just because your girlfriends say she is bad. You have to see it for yourself.

Dress to Impress

Girls dress to impress the guys. Below is a list of ideas that make your first impression perfect:

1) Dress Your Personality
The key here is to find the style that fits you. Don't ever get into the perception of fitting into someone else's style.

2) Be Sincere
When a guy comes up to you, be sincere about it. Even if you don't like him, he will definitely be kind to you if he comes to talk to you. Give the guy a big smile and have an attractive eye contact.

3) Go Solo
College guys hate to approach a huge group of girls. It give them a huge pressure (I experienced this myself). Sitting alone makes guys think you are free and single and are ready to mingle.

4) Talk to Him
Most of the guys are afraid to walk up to a girl and talk to her so you have to do the move. Go talk to him when he sits alone.

College Dating Part I

We will all eventually find someone to date in college. You probably find one through partying or studying. Below is some place you can bring your other half to:

1) Grab a Cup of Coffee

This is one of the best ideas for college student dating, as well as one of the cheapest. Start things off with a cup of coffee at your local cafe. This gives you a chance to test the waters before diving in. Instead of being nailed down for an entire dinner, you can “spill” your coffee and say you have to run.
2) Go to Breakfast or Lunch Together
This runs along the same lines as the coffee date. It’s a great, non-assuming idea for dating in college, and generally costs a lot less than going out to dinner. Because breakfast is typically more informal, it’s less intimidating than a dinner date as well.
3) Make Dinner
This is probably the most romantic dating ideas out there. Before you freak out over the idea of creating a meal that doesn’t involve a microwave, realize that there are a ton of resources that can help. Ask a family member for a recipe, check the internet for simple ideas, or ask a local butcher for advice. If all else fails, invite her to help you out and you guys can cook together and eat together. *Remember to give your place a bit of decoration.
4) Go to Medium-Mild Party
Don't ever think of going to your other half to a wild party. Control is the key here. You guys should have a good time as well as get to know each other. As a word of caution, this step can only be used by people who know each other for almost a year.

Six Types of Girls

We are all there to meet new people and hopefully, people who we'll stay in touch for the rest of our life. Other than education, one of the reasons that guys go to college is to meet girls. Press Six Types of Girls in College.

The Ultimate "Book"

Most of us will hit a dead-end while studying in college. Below is the website that provides you with online one-on-one tutoring in various subjects of your choice.

The Summer Before College

It is your last summer before college official starts. Below is a list of recommendations you should follow before you go to college.

1) Do Your Orientation
It is never wise to miss your orientation so remember to attend it. Orientation is where you will meet your "college friends" so be open-minded and casual at the orientation. Most schools do first-come first-serve class selection, so it is wise to choose the earlier orientation.

2) Contact Your Roommates
It is never too late to contact your roommates. You will most likely spend the first whole year with the same roommates so be kind with them and they'll be kind with you. Contact your roommates through Facebook is alright.

3) Get In Shape
In the real world, everything is about first impression. So get in shape and lots of people will be coming to you. Most schools have a certain period of the year that is warmer and thus, it's the best time to show off what you got.

4) No Cars
Despite how wealthy your family is, don't ever bring your car the first year (you can do that the second year and so forth). First year is when all the people have the fun time together. They drink together. They bike together. They go to class together. So get a bike and get ready to go with the flow of your friends.

What You Should Bring College

Each college is different regarding the kinds of items permitted in dorms. So be sure to check out your college's website.

Things You Should Bring:
- TV
- Pillows
- Rug
- Hangers
- Posters
- Bicycle
- Fridge (Some college provide rental)
- Lamp
- Your Confidence

What Does Your College Major Worth?

Most of you are probably still undecided about your college majors so I will provide a list of college majors that you should consider not taking. I am not offending any major but these are just suggestions.

These majors won't provide much job opportunities after graduation.

- Art History, Philosophy, Music, Dance, Latin, and Film

The majors stated above is not practical (applicable to real world when getting a job) but it does not mean people who have those majors do bad in life. It is more of a general picture rather than a special one.

6 Gadgets for College Students

1) iPod
Sure, college students lived without MP3 players back in the day, but in 2011, it’s practically required to have an iPod parked in your back pocket. Whether listening to tunes, watching movies during your commute or catching up on a prof’s podcast, there’s nothing as small, convenient and well-priced as an iPod.

2) Smartphone
BlackBerrys, iPhones and Androids -- oh, my! While smartphones undoubtedly come in handy for apps, social media and Internet browsing, their most useful offering is constant access to email. With professors sending out assignment reminders, last-minute class cancellations and bonus readings, email at your fingertips is absolutely necessary.
* I personally would recommend Motorola Droid 2 or Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.

3) Laptop
Sure, a desktop might work but laptop is the way to go. You are constantly moving in college so getting a laptop might be wise. If you want stylish appearance, you can get Sony Vaio. If you want the name, you can get Apple MacBook or MacBook Pro. If you want everyday use, then get IBM or HP laptops.

4) Digital Camera
Digital Camera can capture all the good memories you have with your friends. But with today's technology, our smartphone is basically a miniature digital camera.

5) USB Thumb Drive
USB thumb drive is a portable device to carry all your homework and documents. You should update your USB often to store the most important files you need. If you laptop breaks down, you will still have the file on hand.

6) Portable Speakers
Porrtable speakers are vital for entertaining any crowd, all the more reason to invest in these lightweight, easy-to-transport devices. While laptops are unreliable for legitimate sound quality and iPods will only keep the beat for an audience of one, portable speakers are the key ingredient in making your next pregame party a huge success.

What ALL Freshman Should Know

College experience cannot be compare with anything, not even high school. But there are lots of things college freshman should know.

1) Go to Class
The first one is obvious. Go to class. Earn you grade. and Go on with the next few years.

2) Party Finder
Don't send out mass texts to everyone you know asking, "do you know of any parties?". Sure they are your friends but it is very annoying.  Just ask around when you hangout with your friends. Word of mouth is probably the most classic and fastest way to pass information around.

3) Hook Up
Don't hook up with someone in your dorm hall. It will get awkward afterward. You will be seeing her/him everyday in the hall. If it is unavoidable, just try to minimize it from happening.

4) Clean Up After Yourself
College parties are definitely a lot of fun but try to stay within your drinking level. You don't want to puke or punch your friend in his/her face. Please clean up after yourself. Thank you.

5) No Early Birds
If you are an early person, then sure, go ahead and choose all the morning classes. But I bet most of us aren't early birds. So choose the later classes rather than the early ones.

How to Hook Up with Girls

College is where we all want to have fun. Whether it be dating or just hooking up. Both requires you to have the courage to do it. Here is the game plan:

1_Single Out
If you see a group of hot girls in a party, try to single out the lady. It is better to get target one than the whole group, unless you are Brad Pitt.

2_Step Up
Step up to the girl and introduce yourself. The winning point is to be confident. Smile broadly and make solid eye contacts.

3_Plan Instantly
This next move depends on the type of girl you are interacting with so you have to plan instantly. You can offer her a dance or a drink or place the college party games.

4_Find Excuses
After all the hassles above, you got to find excuses to go to her place. If she doesn't seem to like this idea, find excuses to take her to YOUR place.

5_Play the Game
Well, you write the summary of this step!

Party Games

There are lots of games in college parties but I am going to list the classic ones.

1) Beer Pong
Beer Pong works like this: You throw ping pong balls into paper/plastic cups filled with beer. Success means that the other teams have to drink the beer.

2) Beer Checkers
Use shot glasses filled with beer as pieces. Each time a player’s shot glass is jumped, they must down that shot glass. Loser downs the remaining shot glasses.

3) Dice
Roll the dice. On each player’s turn, they must drink if they roll anything that adds up to six.

4) Quarters
Each player tries to bounce a quarter off the counter and into the shot glass. At each successful
attempt, the other player drinks.

Beer Pong

How to Avoid Hangover

How to avoid hangover from all the partying in college? There is really no way to avoid hangovers in college but there are few ways to cure hangover quickly.

1) Drink Lots of Water
Drink lots of water in order to flush away all the alcoholic contents in your body. Gatorade provides relief from hangover but pure water is the most effective in waking you up.

2) Coffee
Coffee is an effective way to cure hangover. However, caffeine can both treat and cause headaches so drink coffee wisely.

3) Food
Right before you attend college parties, eat lots of greasy food (or just food in general). It will allow slower absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream.

4) Exercise
Exercise will help alleviate hangover but it is not an effective way. You are probably dead tired from hangover and so you probably don't have the motivation to exercise. Exercise will speed up the flow of your bloodstream and thus digest the alcohol in your body.

I have tried all of them and I find drinking water is the most effective way. Trust me. You will need this when you go to college. College will be the place for the most parties you will ever experience. If you have any remedies for alleviating hangover, please comment below.
